It has been learned that Maxon has unveiled their new Redshift subscription plans and discontinued perpetual licenses, which previously cost $500 for a node-locked license, $600 for a floating license.

At $45 per month or $264 per year, Redshift subscriptions are described as “comparable” to the old service agreements, which cost $250 per year for a node-locked license or $300 per year for a floating license.

Users with a perpetual license with existing annual maintenance agreements can renew until August 23, 2023.
The old Redshift Web site is now disabled and links lead to the main Maxon site.

Redshift is available for Windows 7 and up, Linux and macOS 11.3 and up. The current version of Redshift is 3.0.54. The integration plugins are compatible with 3ds Max 2014 and above, Blender 2.83+, Cinema 4D R17 and above, Houdini 17.0 and above (18.0+ in macOS), Katana 3.0v1 and version above and Maya 2014 and above (2016.5+ in macOS).
The software is now distributed by subscription only.

3D Modeling

creating three-dimensional computer images and graphics

Learning 3D software is not easy, so before you start, decide for yourself if you really want to and can do 3D modeling.

One of the most essential traits inherent to 3D graphics professionals is creativity.

Like drawing and animation, the field of 3D modeling requires a rich imagination and out-of-the-box thinking to create unusual characters and worlds that will stand out from the rest.

The work of a 3D modeler also requires meticulous attention to detail, patience, and perseverance, as each model is long and carefully worked through, "polished", and perfected.
